ANNECHOVIE IN STYLE AT HOME MAGAZINE
I was excited to find that my Chanel No.5 Print was featured in this month's Style at Home magazine (Canada). It's always a morale boost to see a mention in a magazine. So many times, as an artist, a magazine promises to publish your work, requests free samples for a photoshoot and then tells you to look for your work/product in a specific issue. You excitedly receive or find the magazine, thumbing through the pages with heart palpitations, scanning like a crazy woman only to realize you were cut in the final edit. Trust me, it's an education in humility, patience and handling disappointment. That said, it's even sweeter when you get a feature that's a complete surprise! This mention came via MadeByGirl who carries my black Chanel No.5 print on their website. Below is a direct link to the issue.
This is the "snapshot" of the mention

SPRING BULBS & CHEER
Ever since I can remember, I have loved the scent of hyacinths. From the days of long Winters growing up in the North, they have represented to me the promise and hope of Spring and warmer weather. The scent triggers a sort of euphoria in my brain and takes me back to those crisp sunny days as a preschooler, tooling around in my windbreaker on a tricycle, stopping to sniff the hyacinths planted in beds along our driveway.
To this day, hyacinths still give me a thrill....even if I am blessed enought to spend my Winters in a sunny subtropical climate now. This is just a snapshot of one I bought at my local store that I have been enjoying thoroughly. I love the way it picked up the color in my "Patchouli Seas" canvas print (available here).
Do you enjoy Spring bulbs in your home? Which flower is your favorite?
IPAD & ANNECHOVIE
I wanted to find an attractive case for my ipad that wasn't too common and came in a pleasing hue.
I admired this Smythson sleeve from afar, but at $280 it was way out of my budget (how I do love their signature blue hue, though!) Hmm, what's a girl to do? Well, you design your own!
Here's the end product and it's for sale here and can be personalized.

ANNECHOVIE'S ALOHA SCRAPBOOK
I just returned from spending a couple of blissful weeks in Hawaii visiting my boyfriend (who is living there for a few months).
From the very moment of my arrival, he managed to break all records as the perfect host and tour guide, greeting me with the traditional lei around my neck and then whisking me off for island fun.
This guy thinks of everything.....
From seeing the sights, to lolling about on the beach for hours
A great phenomenal time was had!
A little tai chi beachside (AIV a.k.a. Annechovie Improvised Version)
Being serenaded at the Halekulani by great music and Miss Hawaii 2011 dancing
(talk about ambience!)
No, those are NOT gang signs.....just a photographic record indicating my 8th day of the trip.
This restaurant had great live jazz, truffle fries, ahi tacos and a picturesque pier view.
I would definitely recommend - stop by Nico's at Pier 38 in Honolulu.
Afterward, we caught the festive Christmas street parade
and I had a little visit with "The Storyteller".
Fireworks on the beach are a festive weekly happening on Friday night - a great way to close the week.
A visit to the statue of the "Father of Surfing" Duke Kahanamoku, both by night & by day
Duke was a 5 time Olympic gold medalist and cultural celebrity superstar.
He remains a Hawaiian icon to this day and gets plenty of posthumous attention, believe me.
It was lots of fun wandering the North Shore and dining at the infamous Haleiwa Cafe - this is surfer culture and I felt right at home. Coming from Florida, I was already well supplied with swimsuits, shorts, flip flops and a pretty decent tan. By the time I left, I was a few shades darker and many more degrees relaxed.
Hawaiians like to call everyone "Uncle", "Auntie" or "Cousin". It kind of threw me at first, but before long, I was calling my boyfriend "Cousin" for fun. He is very patient with my cheezy humor. What a good sport!
Another day, another great lunch at the world-reknowned Shrimp Shack - I ordered the coconut shrimp. Definitely everything it's cracked up to be and all this goodness on a paper plate from a food truck!!
No frou-frou pretense here, just the real deal.
Pretty cute and kitschy tables, huh? Pull up a chair.......
At Lanikai, we continued our daily beach smashball matches and we are holding steady at 115 consecutive hits for now.
I was told that a trip to Hawaii wouldn't be complete without the authentic Luau experience, so I wholeheartedly embraced it and had a blast (even if I refused to get up on the stage for hula lessons - I don't dig forced participation)
This was my "enjoying-fire-dancer-yet-glad-to-be-sitting-at-a-safe-distance" expression.
Ah, the land of fragrant trade winds, palm trees and roast pig in a sand pit removed by primitive costumed dudes that you spotted only 20 minutes earlier in t-shirts driving a golf cart.
On the island, there are always great food aromas in the air...everywhere!
Between these aromas and the hearty appetite worked up by a day in the surf/sand, this girl could definitely put away the food, let me tell you!!
By the way, I did try the poi, but can't say I'll be asking for it ever again. I had a flashback to being in a high chair with a bib around my neck eating Gerber baby food out of a jar while grimacing and wincing.
As the trip drew to a close, I (sadly) prepared to head back to the mainland to gear up for the Holiday rush/grindstone at work. I left rested and recharged with an overflowing heart and irreplaceable memories that I will cherish forever. Thanks to the most charming, thoughtful, knowledgeable and handsome host/tour guide a girl could have, my visit was better than I could have dreamed and I cannot wait to come back!
Here are some of my must-see OR must-eat recommendations:
Kua' Aina : casual establishment with a killer chicken teriyaki sandwich - make sure you ask for avocado on top!
Nico's at Pier 38 : ahi tacos
Halekulani Hotel - House Without a Key : go here for unbeatable ambience and romantic atmosphere for unwinding at sunset/evening.
Shrimp Shack : fresh and succulent shrimp served in a variety of ways from a cheery yellow food truck on the North Shore.
Lanikai Beach : simply gorgeous spot in Kailua on Windward side of Oahu. Enough said.
Ala Moana Surfrider Hotel : a historic place to stay or dine in Waikiki. Settle into a rocking chair on the sweeping front porch and order an aperitif while the music from the piano bar drifts out into the balmy night.
These are just a few highlights from my trip - please feel free to share some favorite spots of your own as I'd love to check them out on my next visit.

FLAMINGO - NEW PAINTING
Did you have a nice weekend? I hope so!
I got in a little pool time and some relaxation that left me refreshed and ready for the week.
Here's another piece in my abstract series. I've named it "Flamingo" because it was inspired by the colors of the indigenous birds and water here in Florida. It's available now in my shop here - more to come!
EDIBLE ART
There is a shop on Etsy from LA that I love to peruse. It's called "Andie's Specialty Sweets" and is what I would definitely term "a feast for the eyes". Never before have I seen such creative and realistic sculptures that were also edible. Everything looks good to me and even though I don't really consider myself a sweets person, per se, these really grab me. The only issue I would have is actually consuming them because it would seem like you were destroying a carfeully crafted work of art! I think they would make lovely host/hostess gifts or a wonderful conversation piece to top a dessert at a special dinner party or celebratory occasion. It'd be pretty difficult to narrow down my favorite....what about you? What would you choose?

SPRING PINKS & PAIRINGS
Spring is my favorite time of year because I love all of the bright colors that are out in the stores. I don't naturally lean towards black and drab colors (in case you haven't noticed!) Living here in South Florida, we are able to get away with lighter colors because of our warm climate and beach culture.
Pink is definitely up there as a favorite, add to that a fondness for espadrilles and a little height - without sacrificing comfort- and I thought this pair of wedge shoes was adorable. Personally, I think that heels are great and I love the way they look, but generally speaking, I don't like to wear them very often. I am fortunate that my casual, work-from-home lifestyle affords me the opportunity to dodge regular workplace clothing rules and wear what I like and what works for me personally. Often that includes a bathing suit (under casual clothing - convenient for an afternoon swim break) and flip-flops. There are times when a girl wants a little lift though, and that's when I opt for a comfortable wedge with some style and color like the pair above.
I'd probably sport these with a great pair of white jeans (my Summer staple).
and maybe a bright aqua tank
This is kind of my go-to Spring/Summer casual get-up.
There are an endless number of color combinations that are great for this time of year, whether you pair jeans and a tank, shorts and a tee, a sun dress and a great pair of metallic sandals or a colorful tunic and leggings. To me, it's all about color and the ease of putting pieces together that look sharp and yet are comfortable and versatile.
What are a few of your favorite Spring pairings?
